Zauberei (神聖魔法呪文 (ゾーバーレイ), Zōbārei; German for "Spellcraft", Japanese for "Holy Magic Spells") is a set of Quincy techniques that serve to oppose the Shinigami's system of Kidō. They are diverse and powerful spells that are all achieved by manipulating Reishi in a unique way and can be used by all Quincy, no matter their blood purity.

The Spell Rods[]
Quincy absorb and manipulate Reishi to their own ends, with some capable of achieving techniques others cannot, thus making the spells known as Zauberei. However, by storing the knowledge of these techniques into small, pencil-sized rods, other Quincy can learn the process of performing the spell. With enough practice, a Quincy will be able to perform the spell stored within the rod without the latter's usage.
Zauberei spells are categorized into numbered levels, which determine their level of power and overall difficulty to perform. From the lowest to the highest, they are Level 1. Level 2. Level 3. And finally, Level 4, with level 4 being spells that only Sternritter or Yhwach himself are capable of performing.
The Level System[]
In order to properly hone and advance knowledge in Zauberei, the number system was created. They go from Levels 1 to 4.
Level 1: The Level 1 spells are the easiest and most basic ones to learn, and can be performed without the use of spell rods. They primarily consist of techniques that are basic attack spells or defensive wards. Despite being the lowest level, skilled Quincy can use these spells to both fend off strong attackers and defend themselves against powerful techniques.
Level 2: These spells are where the spell rods first come into play, as they are more advanced and powerful than Level 1 spells. Level 2 spells consist primarily of offensive based techniques, such as Heiliges Feuer and the like. These are seen as the Quincy's answer to Hadō spells.
Level 3: Level 3 spells are more complex techniques that aren't as direct as levels 1 and 2. These are more based on deception and evasion, including illusions and the use of shadows. These spells require the use of spell rods, even for lower level Sternritter, for not using them properly could result in horrible deformations and loss of memory.
Level 4: Level 4 spells are referred to as The Big Four by the Wandenreich, as they are the most powerful spells in the Zauberei line up, only capable of being used by master Quincy and Yhwach.
